Jorge Antonatos, Owner of Sound Event DJs had the Honor to Provide the DJ and Lighting Services on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at the Marriott Biscayne Bay in Miami. Congratulations to Monica & Jose, and a Big Thank You for choosing Sound Event DJs! The Wedding Reception was absolutely amazing.
For the Lighting, we provided our brand new Wireless LED Up Lights. We were able to place the lighting in the best areas without having to run wires. The Bride and Groom like their Wedding Planner Rosa Proenza said “They Look Like Movie Stars”. The Wedding to sum it up was very elegant and when it came time for party dancing it was super fun. All of the friends and family were on the dance floor having a blast. The Bride & Groom even topped the last portion of the reception with La Hora Loca otherwise known as the Crazy Hour and it added a nice touch to the Party Dancing.
This particular wedding is a perfect example of what a Wedding Reception Should entail, from the special moments like the Bride & Groom’s First Dance, Memorable Toasts and of course Party Dancing.

What is La Hora Loca? In English it is called The Crazy Hour. The tradition comes from Latin Weddings and primarily a Venezuelan tradition. This is such a fun experience it quickly became a hot trend crossing over to other cultures. In South Florida alone, it has spread from Miami to Fort Lauderdale and even Palm Beach. Just recently we performed at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach and we did La Hora Loca with major crowd reaction. La Hora Loca can be considered like an After Party within the Party. Some have described it like a New Year’s Eve Celebration. Typically done towards the end of the wedding reception (around the last hour of the reception). Click Here for a Sample Mix of La Hora Loca music.
What do you need to have La Hora Loca? The Party favors is a major factor and a must have if you are having a Crazy Hour. For Example cool glasses, noisemakers and the main ones are masks and Hats (Typically the Bride & Groom will have their very own Over the Top Hats and/or Mask). We also provide Confetti Blast which make it super fun.
Can My DJ Handle this or Do I need to Hire Extra Entertainment? We are able to provide La Hora Loca experience and depending on what you are looking for you may hire additional Entertainment. One particular Company that specializes in La Hora Loca with many types of Entertainers from Brazilian Dancers, Party Stilt Walkers, Drummers and so much more is a Company Based in Miami called Sunflower Entertainment.
What kind of Music is Played During La Hora Loca? Click Here for a Sample Mix of La Hora Loca music. The music should be high energy and can consist of Dance Music, Latin Rhythms, to Some Up Beat Disco Songs, Brazillian Music and Caribean Music.

Ok so you are getting married and have so many to do’s. Florist, Cake, Photographer, Videographer, Venue, Guest list, well it just goes on and on. Of course one of the most important factors is selecting your DJ or if you are going with Live Band. Some Couples even select both a band and a DJ. If you are looking for a great Live Band we recommend looking into a Band called Private Stock.
Ok so going back to details for your wedding. You’ve been planning and have lots of checks and almost inevitable you will have to give some thought for the very special Bride and Groom First Dance. Out of all the music played at your wedding reception the 1st dance is by far “The” most important song and dance. There are many wedding traditions that are sometimes passed, but one that is pretty much like 99.999% sure is that you will be dancing that very special First Dance. Selecting a song for some might be a no brainer, for others you could get lost in a sea of songs.
Some things to consider and this may be a no brainer too, but should help you if you are looking for “The One”.
5 Top Things to Consider for your 1st Dance:
- Lyrical Content
- Speed of the Song (Tempo)
- Length of time (If the song is too long, you have a few options to still use this song like Fading early, or inviting your Bridal Party to join in)
- Imagine (Close your eyes to get a better Vision of how its going to look) All of your Friends and family watching this special moment and your photographer capturing those special moments as you embrace for your First Dance
- Narrow it Down If you are torn between 2 songs you have a few options, select the one you like best and use the 2nd song for another special moment or dedication, or you could even select to use 2 songs for your first dance. (Sound Event DJs is Supreme when it comes to special First Dance Mixes). Below is an example of DJ Jorge Antonatos Editing a Custom First Dance Mix.

If you are getting married and having a reception, this question will definitely surface. There are many factors to consider when making your decision. First and foremost do you want to do the Bouquet and Garter Toss? You could even just do the Bouquet Toss only if you like. Consider the number of guests that will be in attendance and how many of your guests are not officially married. If all or most of your guests are married, you could have what is called the Anniversary Dance instead. Basically for the anniversary dance your MC invites all the married couples to the dance floor and the couple that is married the longest is presented with the Bouquet.
Typically, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes if you are going to do the Bouquet and Garter Toss. One of the various reasons when a Bride and Groom is having doubts about doing the Bouquet and Garter Toss is fear that no one will want to participate. Another might be because it leaves for more time for dancing or just want to steer away from some of the traditional formalities. If you are getting married, the decision should boil down to the Bride and Groom. Take opinions from professionals, your friends & family, factor in all of their ideas and suggestions, to make your own decision. It is tradition of course, but ultimately its your big day and your choice. It is also a nice pause between the dancing and it is a great way to segway into a crazy hour aka La Hora Loca or just a great way to transition into a different style of music etc. Selecting music is just as important too. WeddingWire has great suggestions on their website. I will provide direct links for you: Bouquet Toss Songs, Garter Removal Songs. The bottom line is that its usually a lot of fun doing the Bouquet and Garter Toss, but if you are not feeling it, then go ahead and pass on it. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, I would be more than happy to assist.
With so many people trying to get your attention from tv, radio, bridal shows, internet, social networks, and the saturation of DJs and DJ companies out there, well you get the idea, it can perhaps make selecting your DJ overwhelming.
Look and you will find some great and not so great experiences with a DJ or DJ company. My opinion as a professional DJ in the business for over 15 years is not to base your hiring solely on videos, demos or a sales person. To me the best proof you hire the right DJ is from the customer feedback. The last thing you should want is to hire a DJ with little to no information only to find out a rookie DJ is using your event as a training ground. That being said, a true professional, experienced and talented DJ makes a world of a difference. Keep in mind there are many DJ styles, so make sure the style and vision for what you are looking for is matching with the DJ you are hiring. Some people may know just how crucial the music aspect of a special event is or some may find out when it’s too late. So be sure you feel comfortable with your decision and check the reviews. This will make for a sound event and save you the frustration and regret later. Chances are if you are basing hiring your DJ only because of the pricing, you might fall into a dangerous territory of having a questionable DJ, so it might be better to pay a little extra to ensure your special event runs smooth and makes for a memorable event that you can treasure for years to come.
On the other hand some people might pay an outrageous price for DJ services and not get the most bang for your buck so pricing should not really be the primary factor.
